Purpose and Mission:

Gateway is looking for an excellent Family Resource Specialist to quickly and accurately connect Alabama children, families and community partners with high quality services.  This individual is passionate about putting "families first," and leverages strong customer service, technology and human services skills to be a game changer for those we serve.

Goal:

Thorough, thoughtful and complete support that meets the needs of callers and visitors. Expert knowledge of Gateway programs and resources and other community resources. Excellent, resourceful and adaptive customer service. Supports placement in appropriate services. Able to receive, process, document and track admissions of all client referals within the guidelines set by agency policy and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processes referrals immediately
    • Assesses referral for appropriate service
    • Secures case material necessary to determine eligibility; initiates problem solving for missing or incomplete information
    • Enters necessary information in the agency electronic health record immediately
  • Answers phone before 4<sup>th</sup> ring, responds immediately to requests for assistance and agency referrals. Greets visitors at front desk with warm welcome and sincere desire to serve effectively and efficiently.
  • Seeks supervisory assistance with problems/issues immediately.
  • Works with Family Resource Specialist Team to share/support/distribute workload, cover absences and achieve unit goals for timeliness and quality.
  • Works flexible schedule to include evening hours as assigned.
  • Represents/markets agency by making presentations to community and referral sources, providing updates on agency programs, services, referral procedures and eligibility
  • Serves as a knowledgeable and helpful referral resource to programs/Gateway Resources coordinated outside the Family Resource intake program
  • Liaisons with DHR and other referral sources providing information and referrals to community services not offered by agency service area
  • Enters complete and accurate information in system
  • Scans documents to electronic health record within 48 hours of receipt
  • Ensures that records have the necessary paperwork for intake decisions according to the admitting program’s inclusionary criteria
  • Updates electronic health record on inquiries, referral and dispositions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in social work or counseling.
  • Licensed social worker (LBSW, LMSW, LICSW) or Licensed Counselor (ALC, LPC).  
  • LBSW requires a minimum of six months completing clinical assessments.  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient with computers.
